Frank Rescigna, president of licensing worldwide for Guess Inc. said,
“Sight and smell are the two most
powerful senses, and Guess has tapped into both. Visually, Paul
Marciano’s campaign imagery has made the Guess Girl instantly
recognizable. Now, through a great partnership, Coty will provide that
same recognition with the Guess Girl scent.”
2: Boss Nuit Pour Femme by Hugo Bos, EDP, 75ml (July)
Hugo Boss
has launched Boss Nuit Pour Femme. The new floral fragrance for women
was inspired by ‘the little black dress’, and is fronted by
actress Gwyneth Paltrow.
The notes include peach, aldehydes, white flowers, jasmine, violet, moss and sandalwood.
3: Chanel Coco Noir Perfume, A New Perfume For Women, EDP, 100ml (August)
Coco Noir is meant to be sophisticated
and elegant; and is a flanker to 1984′s Coco. Mysterious, elegant and
lush, Coco Noir floats on a dark cloud of Venetian memories.
Coco Noir was developed by perfumer Jacques Polge; the notes include
bergamot, grapefruit, orange, jasmine, rose, geranium, patchouli, tonka
bean, vanilla, sandalwood, incense and white musk.
4: Boucheron Jaipur Bracele, EDP, 100ml (August)
by Boucheron
Earlier this year, Boucheron launched Jaïpur Bracelet for women, a flanker to Jaïpur. The gems and their arrangement bring the wearer astrological “balance” and good luck. A ruby (sun) is at the center, and around that stone are (starting at
the top and going clockwise): diamond (Venus), pearl (moon), coral
(Mars), hessonite/cinnamon stone (north lunar node), blue sapphire (Saturn/Shani),
cat’s eye (south lunar node), yellow sapphire (Jupiter) and emerald
(Mercury). In order for the navratan to “work,” all gemstones must be of
the highest quality.

5: Dolce & Gabbana The One Desire, EDP, 100ml (November)
The One Desire
reveals in the top notes a citrusy blend of bergamot, mandarin, lychee
and lily of the valley, emphasizing the glamour and glory of a woman.
The heart blooms with seductive tuberose which is cleverly laid out on
the base which is made of caramel, vanilla, sandalwood and musk.
6: Estee Lauder Very Estee, EDP, 50 ml (September)
Estée Lauder was newly launch Very Estée in October. The new fragrance for women will be
fronted by model Hilary Rhoda, and is intended as a “modern celebration
of the Lauder woman’s affinity for style and luxury”.
Notes for the floral musk include lotus, freesia, cassis, pink
pepper, rose, gardenia, jasmine, sandalwood, cedar, cashmere and musk.
7: Gucci Premiere, EDP, 75 ml (September)
Gucci Première opens on an enormous fruity musk — it smells like a berry
punch shampoo or body spray, and it’s rather more exuberant about it
than it ought to be.
I’ll be interested to see if it hits its mark. For my tastes, the dry
down is nicely done and a reasonably good fit with the bottle and the
concept, but it’s not memorable or interesting enough to
make my buy list, and the opening seems made for another woman entirely.
That’s not all that unusual in the prestige fragrance market, where a
“fun” opening on a paper blotter helps move things along at the
fragrance counter.
8: Esprit Simply You, EDT, 50ml (September)
A love story. Simple, natural and authentic. Uniting men and women
together in a sincere and genuine love. A relaxed, tender ESPRIT
feeling. Faith in one’s self and in each other. An outlook based on
confidence that makes you feel good and look great. Cool, calm,
collected … and in love. Simply You, the new duo fragrance by Esprit.
Simply You for women ~ “Her Simply you opens
with all the tangy-fresh luminosity of tangerine and bergamot, while
neroli adds a soft, airy touch leading into a dazzling floral heart. A final caress of woody-musky
notes project silky, ultra-feminine elegance and seductive mystery.”
Simply You for men ~ “His Simply You proclaims
natural magnetism with an opening of sparkling bergamot and Italian
lemon spiced with black pepper, encapsulating happy vitality and a manly
heart.The noble
richness of patchouli and cedarwood sustain the authentic essence of the
fragrance carried on a warm, sensual, contemporary note of benzoin.”
9: Pure DKNY A Drop of Rose, EDP, 50 ml (September)
Naturally derived rose from turkey. In the rich soil, rain and sunshine
of the isparta valley grows the perfect rose-lush, fragrant, pink. Once a
year women, men and families work together harvesting full blooms by
hand. Starting early dawn, roses are gathered one by one, then brought
into the village for distilling. the process reflects the tranquil
spirit of pureDKNY. Soft and sensually romantic, one flower, one love,
one scent-pure DKNY, A Drop Of Rose.
10: Dolce & Gabbana Pour Femme, EDP, 100ml (October)
Pour Femme opens with a gently aldehydic raspberry and neroli sprinkled
with powdered sugar. Jasmine buzzes in and skips along the sugar syrup.
Generic summer garden flowers and a hint of sandalwood and musk lend
body. The new Pour Femme is humorless and inoffensive. It’s
suburban-pretty with a fruity twist, kind of a white zinfandel of
perfumery.
11: Lancome La Vie Est Belle, EDP, 75 ml (August)
The fragrance, whose name translates as “life is beautiful,” was developed by perfumers Olivier Polge, Dominique Ropion and Anne Flipo.
Its composition includes notes of Florentine Iris pallida, iris
aldehyde, jasmine sambac, Tunisian orange blossom, Indonesian patchouli,
and a “gourmand accord” of vanilla, tonka bean, praline, black currant
and pear. According to Lancôme, La Vie Est Belle represents “a new era”
and “the choice to live one’s life and fill it with beauty.”
12: Marc Jacobs Dot, EDP, 100 ml (August)
Marc Jacobs’
original eponymous fragrance now seems an anomaly (and of course, Blush
is nearly forgotten). Since the massive success of 2007′s Daisy — followed, of course, by her ‘older sister’ Lola in 2009 — it’s all vinyl flowers and sunshine and happy-happy pop music.
The start is vague tropical fruits, rather sweet and loud, with a bit of
sparkle (the notes: red berries, dragon fruit, honeysuckle, jasmine,
orange blossom, coconut water, vanilla, musk and driftwood). For the
first few minutes, it smells like another ‘tween-oriented fruit bomb,
but it calms reasonably quickly, and then it’s pretty tame stuff — much
tamer than Lola, albeit fruitier (and less fresh) than Daisy.
13: Nina Ricci Mademoiselle Ricci, EDP, 80 ml (June)
Nina Ricci
will launch Mademoiselle Ricci in August. The new fragrance for women
is meant as a tribute to a fashion collection that Ricci introduced in
the United States in the 1960s.
Mademoiselle Ricci was developed by perfumer Alberto Morillas; notes include rose, oleander, pink pepper, musk and white wood.
